Darren Solomon, DFS, IAAI-CFI

Fire and Explosion Investigator

Darren Solomon holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and both Master’s and Doctoral Degrees in forensic science from Oklahoma State University. Based in Charlotte, NC, he brings more than 33 years of law enforcement and investigative experience, with over 25 years at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), nearly half of which were as an ATF-Certified Fire Investigator (CFI). He has led numerous complex, high-profile investigations across the nation and has deployed with ATF’s National Response Team to serve as Lead CFI on large-scale, major-loss fire scene investigations.

Dr. Solomon is an IAAI-CFI, a past president of the IAAI North Carolina Chapter, and has served on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1321 Committee since its inception. He serves as an adjunct instructor at Western Carolina University, where he was a founding member of WCU’s Forensic Anthropology and Burned Remains Research Center (FABRRC), and frequently instructs both domestic and international audiences on fatal fire scene investigations and burned human remains.
